Best Season to Visit: When to Go to Qingcheng Mountain?

Qingcheng Mountain is beautiful in all four seasons, each with its own unique charm.

Spring (March to May): New green shoots emerge across the mountains, shrouded in mist, and the air is fresh. The new leaves are vibrant green, and wildflowers bloom along the mountain paths. The climate is mild, but rainfall is plentiful, and the moist mountain breeze carries the fragrance of grass and trees, perfect for hiking and exploring. A light jacket is recommended.

Summer (June to August): Lush greenery abounds, waterfalls flow abundantly, and the forests provide shade from the scorching sun. Although humidity is high, Qingcheng Mountain is cooler than Chengdu, making it a great place to escape the summer heat. Sitting under the ancient trees at Tianshi Cave, listening to the rustling pines and murmuring springs is exceptionally refreshing and soothing. For hiking enthusiasts who don't mind sweating, summer is an ideal choice.

Autumn (September to November) is the best time to visit Qingcheng Mountain. The sky is clear and bright, the maple and ginkgo leaves are ablaze with gold, and the mountains are bathed in warm hues of varying shades. The air is fresh and dry, offering exceptionally clear views from the vantage points. However, autumn is peak tourist season, so advance booking of accommodations is recommended.

Winter (December to February) is tranquil and peaceful, allowing you to truly appreciate the "secluded" essence of Qingcheng Mountain. Fewer tourists visit, and occasional snow accumulation on the mountaintops adds to the serene and ancient charm. Note that some cable cars may be closed for maintenance, and the mountain paths may be slippery.

Travel Tips: How to Get to Qingcheng Mountain Station?

From Chengdu to Qingcheng Mountain Station

Taking the high-speed train is the best option from Xipu Station to Qingcheng Mountain Station. The journey takes about 30 minutes and the ticket price is about 10 RMB. Trains run every 20 to 30 minutes.

Please bring your passport, as you will need to show it when purchasing tickets at the station.

Please note the last train time. The last train back to Chengdu is usually around 9 PM, but the time may vary, so please arrive on time.

Qingcheng Mountain Hiking Safety Tips

The stone steps of Qingcheng are beautiful — and slippery.

Wear proper shoes. This is the most important advice. Hiking shoes or trainers with good grip are essential. Flat sneakers or fashion boots will slip on wet stone steps.

Bring enough water. You‘ll sweat more than you think, even on cool days. Carry at least two bottles. You can buy water on the mountain, but prices are higher.

Start early. The mountain gets crowded by 10:00 AM. If you start at 8:00 AM, you‘ll have cooler weather, better light, and fewer people.

Don‘t rush. The steps are uneven. Take your time. Rest when you need to. Falling is the most common injury on the mountain.

Stay on marked trails. Don‘t climb over barriers or explore off-path areas. Some sections are steep and dangerous.

Check the weather. Rain makes the steps extremely slippery. If it‘s raining heavily, consider postponing your hike or sticking to the cable car.
