Qingcheng Mountain

Qingcheng

Qingcheng Front Mountain

Qingcheng Front Mountain is the cultural heart of the mountain, best known for its ancient Taoist temples, including Tianshi Cave, Shangqing Palace, and Laojun Pavilion. The paths are paved and clearly marked, making the hike accessible for most fitness levels. For those short on time, a cable car runs halfway up the mountain. A full visit typically takes 3 to 4 hours. If you want to learn about Taoism while walking through history, this is where to start.

Qingcheng Back Mountain

Qingcheng Back Mountain

For travelers who love hiking and nature, Qingcheng Back Mountain offers a completely different experience. Instead of temples, you’ll find waterfalls, dense forests, and quieter trails. The trails are steeper. Plan a full-day hike (about 5–6 hours). Two cable cars are available, but many visitors prefer walking the entire loop. Small tea houses and local noodle shops are hidden along the way. If you want to enjoy real mountain scenery, head to the back mountain.

Qingcheng Taoist culture

Mount Qingcheng is widely regarded as the birthplace of Taoism in China. More than 1,800 years ago, Taoist master Zhang Daoling founded the Way of the Celestial Masters here. Today, you can explore ancient temples, stone carvings, and quiet prayer halls that reflect Taoist traditions. Even if you’re not religious, walking through the misty mountain paths offers a peaceful, reflective experience that feels different from other attractions in Sichuan.

The Mount Qingcheng cable car system is a practical option for families, senior travelers, or anyone with limited time. The front mountain cable car runs from the entrance area up to near Tianshi Cave, saving about one hour of uphill walking. The back mountain offers two cable cars, located at Five Dragon Gully and Feiquan Gou. Even with the cable car, you’ll still need to walk some stairs, but it makes the summit much more accessible for casual visitors.

Qingcheng Panda Valley

Qingcheng Panda Valley is one of the best places to see giant pandas near Mount Qingcheng, just a 20-minute drive from the front mountain. It's less crowded than the downtown Chengdu base, allowing you to watch pandas and red pandas in a semi-wild environment. Walk along the bamboo-lined paths — you'll spot pandas sleeping in trees or eating bamboo by the fence. If you want to add a panda experience to your Qingcheng trip, Panda Valley is a convenient and budget-friendly choice.
